Inventory Topic Area: WATER RESOURCE
Subject: DEMAND FOR RECREATION
Management issues:
The restrictions on access to and activities on the waters of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs area differ from loch to loch. Tighter restrictions are imposed on those lochs at which the highest water quality has to be maintained. The Working Party had to ask themselves whether the increasing use of the lochs for recreational purposes necessitates a relaxing of the current restrictions imposed upon waters such as Loch Katrine by (the former) Strathclyde Regional Council. The aim would be to allow some of the quieter activities at least to take place on these water without reducing their quality. The availability of additional locations for such activities could alleviate the pressures and conflicts on waters like Loch Lomond and Loch Earn where no restrictions apply at present.
