Inventory Topic Area: RECREATION
Subject: ACCESS
Management issues:
There are 2 issues associated with access: first, the degree to which activities can be diverted from one part of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs area to another, and second, access to areas of land and water which are not in public ownership or are not accessible other than through areas in private ownership. So far as concerns the first, on land there is scope to make more use of the woodlands, and on water to divert some of the recreational usage from, particularly, Loch Lomond to other lochs and waters. The second issue is one of real complexity - as demonstrated in 'Enjoying the Outdoors: a Consultation Paper on Access to the Countryside for Enjoyment and Understanding' - recently published by Scottish Natural Heritage. The Working Party welcome the opportunity which the Scottish Natural Heritage study will afford to clarify the rights and obligations of the public and landowners alike on the issue of access.
