Inventory Topic Area: RECREATION
Subject: LANDSCAPE AND CONSERVATION CONSIDERATIONS
Management issues:
The Loch Lomond and Trossachs area's diverse natural landscape, its buildings and archaeological features, and its extensive wildlife have all helped to create and sustain its use for leisure and recreation purposes. Successive governments have recognised the need to preserve this unique part of the natural and built heritage of Scotland, but the potential is self evident for people, in their immediate pursuit of leisure and recreation, and frequently in innocence or ignorance, to degrade what it is vital to preserve. Activities can be diverted, however, from fragile to comparatively robust environments. Forestry Commission and private woodland areas remain relatively underused, and Forestry Commission policy provides a positive indication of what can be achieved and warrants further financial encouragement. It is, however, difficult to get a wide range of interests to agree on common goals and a common strategy for achieving them.
