Inventory Topic Area PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Subject HOUSING TO MEET INDIGENOUS NEEDS
Management issues:
The lack of low cost housing for local people is a widespread problem throughout rural Scotland and causes out-migration, a decline in community life, and critical diminution of the local labour force. In general terms, it arises from the inability of a low income group to compete successfully for the available supply of homes. Within Loch Lomond and the Trossachs there are particular difficulties, although these are unquantified since the combination of the area's outstanding natural beauty, and its close proximity to the Glasgow conurbation, conspire to distort the housing market. A further area of concern is the shift from mobile to static caravans and chalets occurring in some parts of the area.
