Inventory Topic Area: PLANNING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
Subject: COORDINATION AND THE JOINT MARKETING OF OPPORTUNITIES
Management issues:
There is a wide range of areas where there is scope for a more coordinated approach across Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. These include:
Countryside access (footpaths, bridleways, cycleways, farm/forest roads, and open country);
Road access, parking and traffic management policies;
Evaluation of the water resource and management of water recreation;
Interpretation/information;
Integrated countryside management;
Tourism development and promotion strategy;
Business development schemes for visitor accommodations and leisure retailing (financial assistance, training, advice and joint marketing);
Preparation/promotion of a tourism development portfolio.
These opportunities relate primarily to recreation and tourism, but it is essential that they are considered with the conservation aims and objectives. Physical planning and other land-use related policies have to a large extent been developed independently for visitor management strategies. There is a clear need for that to be rectified. This would be an appropriate task for the Agency.
