Inventory Topic Area: LAND USE - FARMING, FORESTRY, COUNTRY SPORTS AND ESTATES
Subject: DECLINE IN FARM NUMBERS
Management issues:
The decline in farm incomes, and the changes in farm support which have encourage mechanisation and amalgamations, with individuals aiming to improve efficiency and gain the economics of scale, have threatened the viability of farms and estates throughout the Loch Lomond and Trossachs area. This in turn threatens the survival of local businesses and schools. Encouraging new entrants into farming will depend upon a favourable economic environment, and the availability of new tenancies, particularly for new entrants and young farmers.
