Over the last few decades, changes in public attitudes and outlook and in national priorities and, laterally, in supra-national effects of EC farm policy, have imposed pressures upon farming, forestry and country sports. These have combined to produce significant changes in the landscape, and in the social fabric of the countryside. By identifying changes in land use and the options for managing them, there is a chance to enhance those features that give the area its special qualities.
