Inventory Topic Area: ACCESS INTO THE COUNTRYSIDE
Subject: INFORMATION AND EDUCATION
Management issues:
There is an increasing polarisation of opinion between users and land or riparian owners which it is difficult to resolve without outside help and influence. These are generally not available. A key feature of water sports in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs area is the increasing and potential use of the lochs by visitors from elsewhere in the UK and from further afield. In most cases these visitors have little knowledge of local conditions and could significantly increase local access problems. There are a number of ways in which visitors can be informed of the local situation: these include the display of detailed material at launching points and at picnic sites. Both landowners and public access users are generally ignorant of the help available, what their responsibilities are and how confrontation can be avoided or resolved.
