The Trossachs Report - Foreword

Foreword

In 1971 the Countryside Commission for Scotland invited Mr F J Evans OBE FRT ARICS to prepare a report on the Trossachs area of Perthshire and Stirlingshire which might present a basis for consideration of the recreational potential of this outstandingly attractive part of the Scottish countryside. In particular, Mr Evans was asked how conflicting demands on the study area might be reconciled, to consider possible landscape conservation policies and to make recommendations for the provision of countryside facilities in suitable locations.

Mr Evans has now submitted his report to the Commission following extensive enquiries and consultations with many interested organisations and individuals and the Commission has received many enquiries from these people about the terms of its recommendations, either in whole or in relation to specific matters discussed with Mr Evans. Before the Commission comes to any conclusions about Mr Evans' recommendations, it sees the value in hearing the views of local authorities, landowners and farmers' organisations, the commercial and tourist interests and others who are concerned with the future well-being of the Trossachs.

Accordingly, it has been decided to publish this report and the Commission will be glad to receive comments from as wide a range of interest as possible.
