Breeding Bird Community of Glen Falloch - Introduction and Bibliography

Introduction

In the spring and early summer of 1975, a survey was carried out on the breeding birds in an oakwood in Glen Falloch, in the extreme south-western corner of Perthshire. The River Falloch forms the main water flow into the northern end of Loch Lond, entering the loch at Ardlui. From this mouth the river traces a path that runs due north of the lcoh for some four mile, when it turns abruptly in a north-easterly direction into Glen Falloch proper, following the public road to Crianlarich for much of its length. Where the glen turns, the steep, south-east facing hillside supports mature oakwood (ref 27/300), rising form around 20m a.s.l to the 100m contour. It was in this woodland, a scheduled SSSI, that the census work was undertaken.
