Description : The 1987 inventory (sponsored by Historic Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage) provided the first systematic record of existing historic gardens and designed landscapes as a basis for research and future policy formulation for the agencies concerned. On completion it was acknowledged that the inventory did not include all the most important sites in Scotland and that it would require further site survey exercises (see Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscape - Extension).
