Description : An extension to the 1987 Inventory, which commenced in January 1993 and will be completed in December 1996. However, this extension does not complete the work for the whole of Scotland. The 1987 inventory (sponsored by Historic Scotland and Scottish Natural Heritage) provided the first systematic record of existing historic gardens and designed landscapes as a basis for research and future policy formulation for the agencies concerned. On completion it was acknowledged that the inventory did not include all the most important sites in Scotland and that an extension of site survey exercises was necessary.
