Summary
This report presents the results and recommendations of a moorland bird survey of Beinn Dubhchraig, Ben Oss and Ben Lui, Central Region, Scotland. The study was completed during June, 1993.
The study site (c.3,500 ha.) was selected as a potential Special Protection Area under EC Directive 79/409 on the Conservation of Wild Birds as a result of reconnaissance survey throughout Grampian, Tayside and Central Regions in 1989 (Shepherd et al. 1989). This 1989 study highlighted the requirement for further ornithological survey work in the above area.
A constant effort survey technique was employed in order to assess breeding bird distributions throughout the study area. Distribution tables, maps and notes are presented for all key moorland breeding birds.
Recommendations for conservation of the study areas moorland bird assemblage are discussed in terms of site-based measures.
